Our duo
Ginger for her hair color, Moustache for his beard… and because « Duo GingerMoustache » sounds better than « GingerBeard » ! Born in the Swiss Jura, Sophie Nusbaumer and Calou Rais met at the Circosphère circus school when they were 5 and 10 years old. Their paths led them through unexpected twists and turns to ACaPa, Netherlands, where they learned hand to hand, icarian games, and became artists. They started their professional career by winning multiple prizes at the Young Stage Festival 2022 with their act “En fait,... Actually”. Meanwhile, the support of Swiss, Belgian, Netherlands and French partners launched the show “Parole en l’air”. Their chatty circus identity in these creations is balanced by OSSOL, a silent and sensible act of 12 minutes, performed ever since their graduation. Their upcoming creation NUL - provisional title - is going through the experimental stage and will be touring by spring 2027. On top of their projects, the duo often works with other companies such as MOOST, Nouveaux-Nez and Un loup pour l’Homme.
La Sophie
Sophie followed a Sport-Art-Studies program during high-school, which gave her the means to deepen her circus practice and confirm her will to become a circus artist.
It led her to ACaPa, Netherlands, where she spent 4 years specializing as a flyer, while also expanding her handstand skills.
Besides GingerMoustache, she performs in Fame by Collectif TBTF and will soon be a part of Un loup pour l’Homme’s team.
Sophie enjoys developing her solo work as well, with her act “MonstreCool” and various performances within the Etablissements Felix Tampon, a project she deeply appreciates the social dimension of.
Le Calou
It is during his civilian service at Le ZartiCirque, after taking up an electrician apprenticeship, that Calou decided to pursue a circus career as a base and joined Sophie at ACaPa. He added to their teamwork his interest in the clown arts, and competences in technical fields : sound, lights and rigging.
On the side, Calou currently tours with the show “Dans l’espace” of company Un loup pour l’Homme, and will perform in its next two creations.
Working with this company fulfilled his curiosity for circus tents and his love for cultural mediation towards people with disabilities and elders.
